The Proud Great Western Engine!
If your little one is a Thomas & Friends fan, chances are they’ve come across a cheerful green engine named Duck. But did you know Duck’s real name is actually Montague?
💚 So, why “Duck”?
He got his nickname because of the way he waddles a bit when he moves—just like a duck! Everyone on the Island of Sodor calls him Duck, and he doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s quite proud of it.
🟨 What number is Duck?
Duck is engine number 8. You’ll often see his bright yellow number painted on his side, unless he’s wearing his GWR (Great Western Railway) initials instead—which he’s very proud of!
🚆 What makes Duck special?
Duck is a Great Western pannier tank engine, which means he’s based on a real-life steam engine from the UK. He believes in doing things “The Great Western Way”—that means working hard, staying organised, and always being polite. He’s the kind of engine who keeps things running smoothly, even when others are causing chaos!
🛤️ Where does Duck work?
He usually works on a branch line called the Little Western, often seen with his good friend Oliver and a pair of coaches called Alice and Mirabel. He’s not afraid to stand his ground if he thinks something’s not right—but he always means well!
