Meet Mavis – Sodor’s Hardworking Quarry Diesel
Deep in the rugged hills of Sodor lies the Ffarquhar Quarry — a busy place full of stone trucks,
dusty tracks, and important jobs to be done. At the heart of all that hustle and bustle is Mavis,
the smart and hardworking black-and-yellow diesel engine who keeps everything running
smoothly.
Mavis may be smaller than big engines like Gordon, but she more than makes up for it with
confidence, capability, and determination. Loved by children for her no-nonsense attitude and
clever problem-solving, Mavis brings modern diesel power and a can-do spirit to our Train &
Track Play sessions.Who Is Mavis?
Mavis is a diesel shunter, specially designed to move heavy trucks around the quarry and
organise stone deliveries. She’s practical, efficient, and always ready to help.
She’s easy for children to recognise thanks to:
●🟨 Her bold yellow-and-black hazard stripes
●🖤 Her sturdy diesel engine body
●😀 Her confident, friendly smile
●🪨 Her strong connection to the quarry and heavy work Mavis takes great pride in being useful and dependable. She loves proving that even a smallerengine can take on big responsibilities.
What Does Mavis Do on Sodor?
Mavis works mainly at Ffarquhar Quarry, carefully shunting stone trucks and keeping
everything in order. From time to time, she travels down the branch line to lend a helping hand to Thomas and Toby, showing just how reliable and versatile she can be.
Her role teaches children about teamwork, problem-solving, and the importance of helping others — all while having lots of imaginative fun.
